What does a charity website have to do?

More than a business site. It tells people what you do and where, but it also takes referrals, signs up volunteers, lists sessions, shares news funders can point to and, often, keeps a directory of the other local services you send people to.

General website builders do the first part well. The rest usually means a form plugin, an events plugin, a mailing tool and a spreadsheet the forms pour into, each with its own login and its own bill.

A charity website builder starts from the jobs a charity has. Pages, news and events are there on day one, and every form lands in the same place as the people it is about.

A general builder vs a charity website

Both make a nice homepage. Only one knows who filled in the form.

The usual set-up
  • A form plugin that emails someone’s personal inbox
  • Events typed into a page by hand, and left up after they happen
  • The only person who knows the login has moved on
  • Enquiries copied into a spreadsheet, when someone remembers
Built for charities
  • Forms that create the person’s record, with their consent
  • Public events in the site’s calendar and upcoming-events sections
  • Staff invited by email, each with their own role
  • Every enquiry in one inbox, with a status

What you’ll actually notice

  • Anyone can update it

Pages are built from ready-made blocks, so changing the opening times is not a job for a developer.

  • Nothing goes live by accident

Work on a draft, preview it, and publish when it is ready. Earlier versions are kept if you need one back.

  • People can find you

A sitemap, page descriptions and redirects are set up for you, on your own domain with the padlock.

  • It looks like you

Your name, logo, colours and fonts, with a contrast check so the text stays readable.

How it gets set up

You tell us what you do, who you help and where. We set up the pages, the menus and the forms, in your colours and with your words.

If you already have a site, we bring the pages across and set up redirects from the old addresses, so links people have saved keep working.

  1. 1

    We talk

What you do, who it is for, and what the site needs to say.

  2. 2

    We build the first version

Home, about, get help, volunteer and contact pages, with forms that work.

  3. 3

    You change the words

Edit any page in the browser. Preview it, then publish.

  4. 4

    Your domain points at it

Your web address, with the padlock, and redirects from the old one.

  5. 5

    Enquiries start arriving

In one inbox, with an email alert that never holds the person’s details.

Questions about the website

Do we need a developer?

No. Pages are built from ready-made blocks for text, events, FAQs, galleries, forms and more, and your team edits them in a browser.

Can we keep our web address?

Yes. We connect your existing domain and set up the security certificate. Old page addresses can redirect to the new ones.

Will it show up on Google?

The site has a sitemap, a description for each page and clean addresses from day one. What people search for is up to your words, and we are happy to help with those.

Can we take referrals and volunteer sign-ups?

Yes. Build a form from 13 field types, consent included, and each answer creates the person’s record in the CRM.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. Every page works on a phone, which is how most people will find you.

What does it cost?

One monthly price for the website and the CRM together. Ask and we will tell you the number straight away.

Want to see your site?

Tell us a little about your charity and we will show you what it would look like.
